DOVER Squash and Racketball Club

Dover Squash and Racketball Club is 50 this year.  50 years, so many memories, great matches, leagues, competitions, tantrums, broken friendships, and friendships made.  Reflecting on my time at the Club, I marvel at our long survival in a Sport Centre. Looking at the Honours Board with names of so many dedicated players, I understand fully why we have existed for so long.

It all began in 1975 with a letter written by Norman Dixey (President) published in the Dover Express asking for people interested in forming a Squash Club to be based in the then-new Sports Centre being built in Dover.  James Roberts, Mike Chaston, Jonathon Sloggett, Rodney Galliers, and Norman Dixey answered the call, and a meeting was arranged at James’s house.

There then followed a public meeting, a committee was elected, and Dover Squash Club was formed.  In the September of 1975 the Club played out of Firs SC, Folkestone whilst waiting for Dover Sports Centre to be completed. …

Mary Scott-Miller

by Alan Thatcher

12237413900?profile=RESIZE_400x

Kent Squash has lost one of its most loyal and distinguished servants following the sad passing of Mary Scott-Miller.

Mary served the Kent SRA as county development officer and junior girls’ organiser and was also renowned as an international-standard referee.

She introduced hundreds of girls to the sport, including the current Commonwealth Games women’s singles champion, Gina Kennedy.

Mary and her husband, Alan, were members of Tunbridge Wells Squash Club.

As a referee, Mary officiated at numerous world-ranking tournaments, including the Commonwealth Games and British Open, and was a solid supporter of the Kent Open Championships when it moved to Tunbridge Wells.

As a former Kent chairman and president, I worked with Mary on numerous projects and her enormous contributions to the…

On the 30th of June 2023, Kent saw Biddenden Squash Club, 2022 winners of England Squash ‘Club of the Year’, host Kent Ladies’ first-ever inter-club Kent MATS match.

The club hosted 20 ladies from six different clubs, a record number coming together for the county’s first ladies Mixed Ability Team Squash match 💪🏻

Players from Biddenden, Rodmersham, Hythe, Poult Wood, Mote, and Hawkhurst all battled it out on court during their two sessions of nine minutes of continuous play, the idea being to score as many points for their team as possible.
